Glow in the Dark Volleyball
Last tenebrousness we had a really great combined activity. The Laurels were in attack. They put on a haunted house at an old, abandoned house that is on the farming attribute owned by the YW President. I heard it was totally scary (I didn't go - spider issues, you positive). While the groups of 5-6 kids were gone to the haunted dynasty, the rest of us played glow-in-the-dark volleyball. The Miamaids were in expense of this part since our joint YW activity had been cancelled two weeks before and we were supposed to be in obligation of that. I bought 15 packages of 15 glow-in-the-misty bracelets in the dollar bins at Target. Each kid had five of those - three for a necklace and two for bracelets. They got indeed creative and some wore headbands, some wore them as a chain around their neck, etc. It was jocular to see. I had strung a string of Christmas lights across the top of the volleyball net so we could see that. I took some of the bracelets and taped them, with disentangled packaging tape, to the two balls so it kind of glowed, too. (The balls were bigger than volleyballs and softer - sort of like those balls that you can buy at WalMart that have characters on them - only bigger.) Then we turned off all the lights and let them go at it. The only find was that the ball was out if it touched the ground. We didn't worry about borders lines because we couldn't see those in the dark. The kids had a lot of fun. If I were to do it again, though, I would probably let them challenge volleyball for about 30 minutes and then switch to something else - like glow-in-the-swart dodgeball. The attention span of the youth is about 30 minutes, I've unquestioned. All-in-all, it was a great activity for only $15 worth of glow bracelets, benefit treats. It's almost worth buying more bracelets to keep in the closet for next year.
