SOMA Quarterman- Race Report

On Sunday, T and I completed our espouse triathlon, the SOMA Quarterman in Tempe, AZ. Overall, I'm content with my rivalry results, but we forgot our camera so we have no pictures until the official ones in a recover from out! I'll post them as soon as they're available.

This race required us to have our bikes racked in the transformation area by 4 pm the day before the race, so after packing up our gear and loading up the car, we drove to Tempe anciently Saturday afternoon. It felt like a min-caravan up I-10 because we passed several people from our Masters gang with their bike racks and bikes on their cars headed the same luck out a fitting we were. We arrived in Tempe at 3 pm, and made our way to the race check area. After racking our bikes and picking up our competition packets, we walked around the race expo where different vendors were showing their wares. I was belief really nervous before we even left for Tempe, and seeing the all but 2000 bikes racked, and the racks set aside for the professionals with their $10,000 bikes, truly intimidated me. Not that I was competing against them, but I knew there were going to be some serious triathletes at this tribe. This race is a much more "serious" triathlon than the one we did previously. We checked into our hotel, unloaded the time off of our gear, and waited for our friend J, who was coming in from Colorado to do the contest, to arrive.

J arrived in the nick of time and after she checked in and racked her bike, we walked down Mill Avenue in search of a okay awkward to enjoy our pre-race dinner. We settled on PF Chang’s and I had enchanting chicken and veggies over brown rice. After dinner, T and I headed back to our motor hotel room, showered, and tried to relax, which was harder than we anticipated. Comparable to the night before our last race, we both slept fitfully, with lots of tossing and turning. At around 3 am, we for good gave up and talked for a while, then fell back asleep only to be awakened by the discomfort at 4:30. After showering and having a light...

Florida Challenge Triathlon

First of all, give you for all the comments on my last two posts!! Dave is definitely feeling the mate but still says he doesn't want his own blog. But, he has done his best to get some "bad" photos of me so ya'll can see I don't always grin during a race. Here's what he got at the Florida Challenge Tri last Saturday.

Well, even though I might not show it, I was very happy that the competition organizers had declared that the swim was wetsuit-legal. Earlier in the week, we'd received an email saying the spray temp was 80-81 degs, which didn't look humane. But a storm the day before the race dumped some rain which probably helped. YAY! Above I'm applying some Remains Glide to make my wetsuit easier to put on and take off. After much wriggling and pulling, I was all zipped in but having to apply real tall to breathe. I swear that thing seems to get tighter every at all times I put it on!

No, actually, I was scanning the crowds looking for fellow blogger Sarah, who was there too doing her first half iron breed. I found her near the water's edge along with her husband and some other folks from her tri bludgeon. We chatted for a while and she seemed to be as cool as a cucumber.

I was also probably the most calm I'd ever been before a tri seeing no waves breaking, no innocent caps, no alligator warning signs and buoys that didn't look so far. I told Dave I hoped to polish off kill the swim in ~45 minutes. Honestly, though, I have no clue of my swim compute when I'm swimming in open water. It all depends on the currents, waves, how well I pageant, others around me (one time I drafted someone and ended up swimming slower!)...

Challenged Athletes Foundation SDTC 2008

San Diego Triathlon Challenge JonahSAN DIEGO– When I started my material estate business, one of the first decisions I made was to try to use my resources to benefit the triathlon and persistence sports community. I try to direct my marketing dollars towards sponsoring events and clubs and my all together as well. The two things I am most proud of is the time I spend with the Triathlon Club of San Diego, but mostly my involvement with the Challenged Athletes Foot.

The Challenged Athletes Foundation was founded here in San Diego by three guys, Jeffery Esachow, Rick Kozlowski and Bob Babbitt, looking to hands a fellow triathlete gain more independence by purchasing him an adapted means. The first Tri Challenge was held in 1994 and the foundation was formed in 1997. According to the website the Establishment has raised more then 11 million dollars and funded more than 2,100 grants.

These grants are set to individuals to not only help them pursue new dreams, but to also give them the ability to participate in an bustling lifestyle. Funds are given to athletes of many sports, ranging from snow skiing legs for my buddy Jonah Vandever, pictured with myself and his mom, to handcylces for my all right friend Erica Davis. Funds are also used to assistance cover travel expenses, coaching and clinics to labourers athletes get to the next level of competition. At the 2008 Paralympics, CAF athletes took over 25% of the tools!!!

In 2004, CAF stepped up HUGE in support of our veterans and soldiers trial permanent physical injuries while participating in the global war on fiend. In 2008, that program, Operation Rebound, was extended to comprehend all military persons past and present as well as the first responders of the 911 attacks. As a warhorse of Desert Storm, I am proud that CAF has taken on this mission. Many of these recipients are green men and women who have a long life of accomplishments awaiting them.

Tri-ing in Arizona

Upon arriving in Arizona, I was no longer fearful, which actually made me more nervous, but I was totally exhausted. Turns out, it takes longer to get to Arizona than I hope, or maybe I had just become soft when it comes to travel. Either way, we arrived, slept and woke up on Saturday around 5:30 a.m. municipal time.

After picking up my bike (sans one pedal…so I had to buy a whole set to undivided the bike) we headed over to the venue. The crowd was actually less intimidating than I kind-heartedness, or at least, than it could have been. It helped that the race had around 2,000 triathletes in it, so most of the people were Arizona locals doing the board or half iron. The rest of Saturday was pretty uneventful. I did a quick-witted little mini-tri, doing the swim course, a responsive bike and a really short run. We finished the day with a BoUS informational conjunction, dinner and some walking around Tempe, which had been invaded by a see of mustard-yellow t-shirts as Arizona had a profoundly game that night.

To set the context, the race was taking area at Tempe Town Beach, which is a few blocks from Arizona Nation, and right next to a large, river-looking pool. The locals indeed called it a lake, which blew my mind, because as far as I could tell this combine-lined, run-off filled, life-form-less body of tap water was far from what I would classify as a lake. We spent much of the race crossing and re-crossing the several bridges along the “lake” many times, and also swam underneath the glue pillars. Success number one of my day: not swimming into a pillar.

Anyway, folk morning came and came early. Thankfully, while I don’t about I was still on east coast time, I certainly wasn’t on west sail, so my waking up at 4:30 didn’t seem all that early. Race started at 6:30 and the BoUS athletes had our own whiffle (the first one). As we entered the water at 6:30 a.m. the sun had not yet risen. It was such a surreal sagacity to climb down the bleachers into the...
