USA Be inconsistent Ski has selected Storm Selsor (Fremont, Calif.) and Alex Lauretano (Winter Garden, Fla./Morris, Conn.) as its Man's and Female Athletes of the Month, respectively, for October. The U.S. In the seventh heaven University Water Ski Team earned Team of the Month honors. Selsor, Lauretano and the U.S. Circle University Water Ski Team are now eligible for the United States Olympic Bodys Athlete of the Month and Team of the Month honors.

Cataloochee Ski Area in Maggie Valley Opens Earlier Than Ever Before!

The primitive snow in Haywood County yesterday (October 28th) is breaking records! Our Cataloochee Ski Extent is open now, which is the earliest it has even been open for skiing!

"Cataloochee opened the condition with an 8- to 12 inch base on two beginner slopes yesterday at 1 p.m., making it one of only three unconcealed ski areas in the country. The Maggie Valley ski area is encourage only to Loveland and Arapahoe Basin Ski Areas, both of which opened in Colorado on Oct. 14 and 15 individually."  (Read the rest of the local experiences here .)

Cataloochee Ski Area pre-season hours are: Monday through Friday from 1 to 10 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Thanksgiving Day the Ski Scope will be closed, but it will open during holiday hours the following weekend.  Furlough hours and rates will apply November 28 through 30. Hours for the unqualified season begin Dec. 15, with a few exceptions for special holidays.

Physically getting ready for ski season


In four weeks, the Steamboat Ski & Resource Corporation will open the ski mountain to eager skiers and snowboarders who are fit for Steamboat’s famous Champagne Powder® snow and another epic year. Last pep up, 489 inches of snow fell on the mountain and if the 2008-2009 ski enliven is anything like the 2007-2008 season, I know I need to start getting in fashion now! At the local fitness studio I go to in town, the mentality is “concoct snow.” Everyone is getting prepared to hit the ground meet by participating in classes that focus on ski conditioning. The ski conditioning classes are a teensy-weensy more than what I usually like for an after work workout but I have been taking some Pilates and rotating classes so hopefully I will be ready too.
