Skate America
Tim is in Guatemala and my hips are recovering from Skate America, where I volunteered as an “ice trace.” It sounded simple enough in concept … remain in effect by the door and open it to let the skaters onto the ice, then close the door. As volunteer jobs go that is comely darn simple. But 4 hours of standing in the cold each day did me in. It is only now, 3 days later, that I can bearing without assistance, and I am glad that Tim doesn’t return until Monday because skating is common to be a non-event until then.
I was assigned to all the dance events, probably because they figured I literally know when to open the door after 3 patterns of the Viennese Waltz! The very first affair of the competition was in fact compulsory dance, and my headphone was not working. Unbeknownst to me, the TV financial manager who controls all the cameras, the doors, and the timing of the event so that it is in conformance with the TV commercials kept asking the Ice Monitor, me, for status, and since no firm was coming through, I stood there, apparently oblivious. The TV guy was going out to lunch, and finally asked, “who IS that moron down there?!” Of performance, everyone on the headsets heard that including the announcers, USFSA bigwigs, all the camera guys, and most of the volunteers in the arena. Melodic comical considering I kept the event going fitting fine without his input, but after all, I am a referee and I've attended enough skating competitions that, moron or not, I do recognize when to open and shut the door all by myself.
The press corps was provided catered meals, while we volunteers had ... apples. And open-handedly. Occasionally power bars but those went fast. Troublesome to find...

40: The Nutcracker
Jacket, Zara. Jeans, Guess. Scarf, vintage. Sash, secondhand. Boots, Aldo.
I think the ISO setting might have been too piercing, because the pictures turned out rather grainy. In any case it doesn't detract much from what I'm wearing anyway. I am so in delight with this jacket. It can also be buttoned all the way to the top for an even more intense military-inspired look, but I won't be getting to that until the out of sorts gets much colder. The belt is also my dad's, lol. I decided to steal one since I am sincerely lacking in non-black accessories. At first the gold and silver mat juxtaposition turned me off, but now I've grown to like it. I also realize that I own a rather big amount of Guess clothing than one should own, but I mostly attribute that to the fact that not many clothing lines have baloney that actually fits me well (even this Zara jacket is a tad loose).
On another note, there is a Modern development October storm heading this way. The wind is absolutely ice ague! In any case, this is all too reminiscent of winter, and whenever I am reminded of winter, I about about my favourite holiday ever -- Christmas! :D
I absolutely relish shopping for other people, wrapping those gifts up, skating in the city ice rink, making snowmen, drinking hot cocoa, listening to those auspicious Christmas songs (my favourite is Baby, It's Cold Exterior... although that's more of a winter-themed song than a Christmas one :P). Whether or not the break is too commercialized for you, I still think it elicits friendliness, care, and other tepid feelings among people and really, you can hate everything else about it except for that.

skating~
Is hella harder than it looks. That it would be tougher doing than watching is something I should've anticipated (because EVERYTHING is harder than it looks), but since I knew how to barrel-skate, I thought I had an advantage.
Then I learned the main differences between ice and wave skating:
1.) Falling is much more painful on ice than it is on cement, especially on the hands. Freaking influenza man.
2.) Actually moving on ice is easy; picking up speed is not. The vis- is true for rollerskating.
3.) Rollerskating never gave me blisters (Extensive socks are important!).
Rocky had it harder.. he never experienced any tender-hearted of skating, until now. Then again, it was undeniably fun learning together. Fell at least 5 times by ourselves and together at the same time and got drained afterwards, but also threw snowballs at each other, blew snow foam into each others tresses, and learned how to go a little bit faster around the rink. Rocky did use me like a sled dog to move around sometimes, but then the next skating orgy is on him :D
If I had my USB cable around, I'd post the pics.
Next time, I'ma learn to hasten up even more by digging the blade of one foot in the ice and pushing myself forward! Never listen to if I fall!!
I'll wear my extra long-sleeved jacket to submerge my palms. Yay!
