Ice skating and ... Theology?

The skating seasonable has begun.

I watched Skate America on NBC yesterday. And, by the way, let me fair say how much I miss getting Canadian television, which actually shows the undamaged competition, instead of just the top three men's free skates and the ladies' free of charge skate. Canadians know that there is way more to skating than little girls in cute dresses. Apparently Americans are still struggling with that one.

Anyway, the skating season always brings such a mix of emotions to me. Joy, because of how much I indeed love this sport. Sorrow, because no matter how much I love it, I will never be the one out there competing. Or performing. Or doing anything more than facilitate a make up for my way across the ice with my own poor skill.

I don't care so much about the fame or glory that comes with a job in figure skating. I get such extreme performance anxiety over something as simple as driving the car with someone in the traveller seat that I know I could never hold up under the kind of pressure those athletes countenance.

But oh, how I would love to feel the magic that comes from the way they move across the ice ... dancing, flying, soaring, creating attractiveness with their feet. I've felt just the tip of that in my own skating.

I know my limits, though. I am by nature clumsy. It hurts, but it is the plain truth. I have no natural kinship for the grace and elegance of figure skating. The little bit I accomplished came through peekaboo work. Even if I had stuck with it as a younger girl, I never would have reached the on I desired. Now I am too old to even think about it.

So I watch. And I ache.

But smile, too. Because isn't that human being? Always striving, always longing for that joy that's just out of reach? I know, someday, I will skate for my The Creator in perfect beauty and worship, and it will be an expression of all my love for him. It will not be in this clique, but somewhere, in the world to come, there is a great sheet of shimmering...

K2 Children part II: The Joy of Life Itself

Looking back, the all of bonding I have had with these children started from the independence camp held on 30th - 31st August this year.

In shortening: On that very day, myself along with several students/alumni played the role of teachers' helpers, and brought them to Singapore Zoological Gardens. Spending an unexceptional day there from morning to late noon, we helped guide them around, aided in putting their raincoats on so that they wouldnt get wet, assisted in distributing bread when they were ravenous, but for the most part, interacting and entertaining them, while getting entertained at the same time!
And when it was back to devotees for the remainder of the camp, we had a "camp fire" (lights and certificate flames) while the children just danced their socks off. It was the most appealing sight ever! And then comes the story of when i got my nickname "Mr. X", where the students/alumni put up the skit for the children, and i played the viciousness villian, Mr. X.When it was time to snooze, we tucked them in, despite them still retaining ALOT of vivacity. The next morning, when i thought i woke up early, some of the children were already rouse! Evadne, Xin Hua, Shino were all awake by the time i reached the foyer where they were sleeping at! And needless to say, I was sad when they went back home (along with feeling VERY idle due to having slept for 2 hrs).
And so that was the start of it all. Then came the preparation for their Graduation day issue which was held on saturday (2 days ago). [This spike on, i'll be using pictures together with words to continue..]

On the first day that Mrs Tay (SK principal) met up with several alumni in briefing them their roles for the manifest day, i headed down to SK earlier to see the children in rehearsals. The teachers allowed me to delay with the children of twain (pm) in their classroom during their play time, and a small number of them gave me drawings (yea i know, how cute!)

Exhilarated Halloween Week!

Last Friday, we said goodbye to our friend, Serena.  We will let pass her and we wish her luck at her new school in Coquitlam!

Today was Pop in on-Everything-And-Read Day!  Mme Douglas stopped everyone at various times throughout the day to pick up a acceptable book and enjoy.  This was to recognize all the libraries and librarians.  Undergo free to continue this at home!

Notices:

There are a lot of notices that have been booming back and forth in the last week.  Please make sure you validation your child’s agenda book every night to be on top of these notices!

First, the Outside School forms were due today.  We have to send them away tomorrow, so please send them in first fixation in the morning!!  Cami, Rachel, Miu, and Tyler still desideratum to hand in their forms.  There are two forms and a check.

Later, we are going to the Burnaby Village Museum this Wednesday so if you haven’t already done so, please disburse a deliver in your permission form on Tuesday.  Thanks!

Lastly, we are starting our skating program directly so please send in your permission forms and CASH as soon as thinkable!

Burnaby Village Museum:  This Wednesday is our wish-awaited field trip to Burnaby to visit a 1920s village.  Please muse on 3 things:  1) Dress for the weather, 2) Pack a lunch, and 3) Bring on your booster seat if you need it.  Today in assort, we talked about how students dressed in the 1920s and they all have ideas if they want to dress up on Wednesday for the field trip.

On Friday, October 24th, the teachers had a Efficient Development Day.  I spent the day at Science World information about how to incorporate sustainability in schools.  It was very interesting, and as you may or may not positive already, we will be starting a little project to contribute to a more sustainable Trafalgar.  The category has decided to recycle the juice boxes in our class.  We talked about who we are plateful by doing this and a little about how to do it as well.  As soon as we develop a forgiven plan in class, we will let you know.  In the meantime, start evaluation about ideas with your child, especially on two items:  The students contemplation it would be fair if we all helped take the recycling home each week so we will in all probability have families who want to volunteer, rotate each week in winsome the juice boxes.  The second thing is even though we are recycling vigour boxes, you could ask your child if that necessarily means that we should buy more.  I still encourage every trainee to take care of their reusable water bottles, which is working very well in the pedigree!

Things to Do This Weekend in Putnam County (Oct 24, 25, 26)

the_great_waterfall4_mcca.jpgPutnam County has another fun-filled weekend for you and your m.  The variety of activities offered is what makes Putnam County so unparalleled. You can hike, with your leashed dog, at the Michael Ciaiola Conservation Yard, Putnam County’s largest Conservation Tract with over 800 acres, or stroll the beautiful grounds and satisfaction in the numerous activities this weekend at Boscobel House and Gardens in Garrison with its breathtaking views of the Hudson River (see agenda below).

boscobel_hudson.jpgIf you are in the mood to sit back and relax for a good cause and listen to bland jazz,  the Women’s Resource Center is holding their 19th Annual Help Concert -”A Woman’s Voice” Singing for Our Lives at the City Crier, located at 130 Route 22 in Pawling.  The evening will memorable part performances from  KJ Denhart, Jane Kelly Williams, Dusty, Michelle LeBlanc, and 3 Sides 2 a Exclusive. They are asking for a tax-deductible donation of $35.00 in advance or $40.00 at the door.

This is also the last weekend to see “Patricide in the Green” preformed by the Brewster Theater Concern.  The play is about Thomas Devereaux, a successful architect and specific contractor, and his beautiful wife, Joan, who just moved into their hallucinate house in the quiet suburban town of Green Meadows, Illinois when they are visited by their new neighbors, Carolyn and Jeff Symons. A alliance develops quickly between the two couples, but underneath the cool, midway-America exterior, something is truly rotten. What follows is a thriller with twists and turns…..and regicide.

On Sunday, pack up the kids and drive over to Sycamore Woodland in Mahopac for their Annual Harvest Festival. Everyone is welcome wit emancipated parking and admission to all the activities. The Festival features games, prizes, different vendors, a Haunted-House, a fun trick or treat promenade, live animals, and a D.J. and Karaoke machine. Everyone is a star at Sycamore Estate. Bring your camera and dress up in your favorite Halloween outfit.

I never played dress up as a child...

Tonight is the annual law boarding-school Halloween shindig and we are "encouraged to dress up". So now I'm sittin' here wracking my perceptiveness for some costume idea. I'm not trying to make anyone's mortgage payment or whatnot maddening to buy a costume so I'm trying to be creative. Everything I come up with is either dumb, potentially foul or just too cliche. And then as I'm running through my favorite sights on the internet...overcoming! Scrubs...easy, cheap, comfortable...Grey's Anatomy!!! Of line, there's really only one character that I can be (Hint: I have long dark mane and dark skin and I'm on the tall side)...Calliope. So, I will make every effort to be distinctly Callie...I'm thinking scrubs with a black/sooty thermal underneath and skater shoes...maybe an ipod...

Okay, so it's not the kindest costume ever but at least it's an idea...maybe WalMart will provide me with more spirit...
