Loading ... It is honestly well known that most swimmer athletes prefer to wear Speedo, not because its gossamer lightness is any assorted to other swimsuits. It is the deep, psychological association of great achievement with the brand.

The Speedo company can proudly and honestly boast that 70% of swimming medals were won by athletes wearing its products in the Olympic Games of 1968, 1972, 1976, and 2008. Olympics gold medalists number Mark Spitz (nine gold medals, as we all know) and that unthinkable superman, Michael Phelps, with fourteen golds.

Speedo, for swimmers, is powerfully associated with attractive and excelling. It therefore follows that if they wear only Speedo in training and in competing, their minds are energised by a strong image of success which gives them maybe just a house of a second “edge” for every two laps, but that trifling bit means … everything.

I am not a massive rugby fan, in that I don’t feel compelled to watchman on the alert for every game played by the Blomme, oops, I mean Bokke. But from days to time I love to sit back in a pub with a crowd of Aussies and kiwis and shout the Blomme, oops, the Bokke on.

I desperately want our okes to moer the Kiwis, and show the Aussies how to drama ordentlike rugby, instead of those funny “Aussie Rules” and Rugby In collusion with versions. I don’t care about the colour of the skin of the Springbok musician. The best man for the job gets the job.

England must never, ever win against us, that bunch of Roses! Not even one try. I...

Are you fanatical??

I was blessed today as I was invited to a Christian mens breakfast. Being Currie Cup Rugby weekend (Like to super bowl for those on the other side of the Atlantic), the restaurant was full of Sharks and Bulls supporters.

Our question was all bout wearing the shirt and playing for the team. Good wearing a rugby shirt does not make one a player. You do not automatically become a band member if you just happen to have a rugby jersey. On the flip side of the coin though, you cannot be on the work together without a team shirt or jersey on.

The application was drawn to the Christian mortal, where many people who claim to be Christians are not team players but only supporters. God does not want supporters for Christianity, He wants players.

My heed was then drawn to this idea of supporters. Wow and do we have some fantastic supporters. Even monomaniacal ones. Supporters who would paint themselves in the colours of their team. Exhaust the team colours. Sit with like minded team supporters. Some would even die for their conspire.

I mean friendships have been lost over supporting the opposite line-up. We call these people fanatical. I dare say that many of us are fanatical in some way over some team or other. We would conclusively skip work and play, for an opportunity to support our flavour of the month team.

Being fanatical, takes real commitment and assurance, even faith. Some would even support their team to the bitter end. I remember a man who committed suicide in the arena after a Rugby Currie Cup final. His team lost, just misplaced.

My question though is, are we as fanatical about Christianity as we are about our sport? Are we proud to don the together colours, are we proud to look like a Christian? Do we advertise our Christianity as we would advertise our supporting span? Do we show up in the crowd as being vastly different? Would we sit with the same team members, do we advertise who and what we are?
