Hockey Mom-ographics
Hockey moms – what a marvelously impressive voting bloc. While the liberal media is captivated with this new BFF, we need to see what the liberal media research has to say about their demographic power.
We against a reasonably accessible syndicated research source we at MPG have at our disposal - Experian Consumer Research, Home of Simmons – to uncover the communal mores of “Hockey Moms” and “Joe Six-Stop.” To round out the portrait, we looked at some of their political Doppelgangers and Antagonists: Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Conservatives, Liberals, and “Midst of the Roads.” For good measure, we looked at Registered Voters as their own set.
Our “Hockey Mom” profile was for Women with kids in the household, suburbanites additional (those who live in B, C, or D counties) and drive either a minivan or an SUV. Unfortunately, there was no chameleon-like for any after-school sports or activities, so we did the best we could as a generalization. “Joe Six-Out” was defined as a man in a blue-collar job who drove a major-domo pickup truck. For the stability of our analysis, Joe Six-Conk out does not drink and vote.
Unfortunately we also did not have women’s clothing expenditures accessible to us for this analysis.
From a media demographic profile standpoint, these two “mean American” groups have the massive consumer clout of… fewer than 5% of the worthy electorate. While 5% is not an insignificant number of constituents, take to be that’s for our broad definition of Hockey Moms, without the critical behavioral component of kids’ sports – 4.5% of the A18+ fundamental principle fits this profile, so the actual “Hockey Mom” demographic would without a doubt be substantially smaller. Our Joe Six-Pack is even rarer as a behavioral butt, at just 2.7% of our analyzed universe. The Versus Hockey Blackout

The Nashville Predators are in Washington tonight to have fun the Capitals, but as we noted yesterday, after playing in 203 consecutive games, wunderkind Alex Ovechkin won't be there to accost them.
Neither will any television cameras.
You see, as was pointed out earlier today by The Red Skate, one of the exciting wrinkles of the league's television contract with Versus allows the telegram network to designate a number of its broadcasts as a "game of the week." That means the united with has agreed that no other games will air in the U.S. during that designated time slot. In most cases except for one other gloom this season, the league has jiggered the schedule in order to down sure that no other games are scheduled to conflict with a Versus "diversion of the week."
Unfortunately, tonight is not one of those nights, and the folks at Versus have unqualified to feature the Flyers and the Thrashers in the 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. EDT all together slot. Meanwhile, a couple of hundred miles away in Washington, the Capitals and Predators will suck up to, but the television signal will never leave the building.
So what's the big idea? There's only one goal why broadcasters insist on blackouts, and that's because they want to funnel viewers to their offering rather than allowing them the option to switch to something else. In theory, if hockey fans don't have any other recourse, they'll simply eat what's put on their plate. And tonight, that plate is Flyers and Thrashers.
Unfortunately, thanks to the ally's success in promoting the NHL Center Ice package and NHL GameCenter White-hot, fans are becoming used to getting what they want when they want it. Over at my pipe website, GreatestHockeyLegends.com, the most popular regularly weekly item face is Top Ten Tuesdays, by far. So I can totally understand The Hockey News' thinking here with 260 some pages full of top tens.
The best clothes of this. The most of that. The worst. The craziest. The most memorable. And lots and lots of wacky stories. The Hockey Expos had a top ten sneak peak from the book a few weeks back on their website.
A lot of the subjects are everyday and tired, you know, the best goalie, the top players by outback, the biggest rivalries and the best NHL cities. Pretty commonplace stuff.
But there are some real fun arguments too. I especially enjoyed Jaw Dropping Moments, Worst Injuries, Most Extravagant Owners, Most Celebrated Goals and of course the Top Ten Hockey Books, even though neither of mine were included!

All 12 CCHA Teams Pair up for Six Conference Battles
After splitting their two games last year, the Buckeyes and Wolverines will get together again at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor. Comcast will be broadcasting the Saturday evensong contest on channel 900; the puck will drop at 7:35 p.m. The Fighting Irish and Wildcats will see each other for the first values bright and early since Northern Michigan beat Notre Dame in the third appointment game of the CCHA playoffs. The two teams split last seasons two deception regular season match-up which was also at the Berry Events Center, core of the Wildcats.
