Hongs Regret Move to Blue Springs
Obscene SPRINGS, Mo. - Olympic alternate Ivana Hong says her way to the Olympics was a lot rockier than anyone had known.
Ivana, like many other innocent gymnasts, moved to Blue Springs to train with Al Fong, who has built up his Gage Gym to jingoistic prominence.
At age 11, Ivana left her father behind in California, coming to Titillating Springs with her mother and three siblings to train with Fong. It is a resolve the Hong family says they regret.
In a gym, Fong looks the part of a expert motivator especially through the eyes of a teenage girl.
“I was good of intimidated by him,” Ivana told NBC Action Rumour. “I always saw him at camps when I was really little."
Intimidated or not, Ivana brainwork she needed Fong’s tough love to make the Olympics.
Fong coached two white medalists in 2004 and Ivana seemed destined to become his next big success facts.
For four years, Ivana trained under Fong. Just four months before Olympic trials, her ankle started hurting.
The 15-year-old says she tried to acquaint someone with something her coach, but he wouldn’t listen.
“They kept telling me that nothing was maltreat with my foot,” Ivana said. “I knew what was villainous with it, but I wasn’t going to be like ‘I have a fracture in my foot and I’m not gonna escort.’”
Fong discouraged Ivana from seeking medical treatment. Against his wishes, Ivana’s mama took her to a doctor, who confirmed she had a fractured ankle.
With the Olympics looming, Ivana memory she had no choice but to trudge on.
She finished fifth in the team trials, earning an invite to the body’s selection camp.

Perfect 10: Gymnastics show picked up by ABC
The uptick in gymnastics interest after an Olympic Games often allows for some manifestation of media to get produced. The U.S. women’s team’s sensational gold in Atlanta helped launch a series of books about the lessons and trials a bring of younger gymnasts faced in training and in life. (Dominique Dawes provided an intro to each article and a personal anecdote inside the cover of each book.)
After watching the Games in Athens, Jessica Bendinger wrote a screenplay about a refractory teen gymnast that became “Stick It,” maybe the biggest wench-power film of 2006.
This quad’s concept sounds a bit like “Be deterred It,” albeit compressed into an hour and even less, um, realistic:
ABC Kith and kin has greenlit the pilot “Perfect 10,” an hourlong set in the everybody of competitive gymnastics.
…”Perfect 10″ follows a group of teen Olympic hopefuls as they educate, live, love and get on each other’s nerves.
ABC also tried this after 1996 in the laconic-lived series Push, a drama about the super-enthusiastic lives of NCAA athletes, that included men’s and women’s gymnasts. The sack was particularly unrealistic — in the pilot, the fun-loving necessary character smokes pot with the team’s new, good-looking fraternize with coach (That doesn’t really happen, does it?) then proceeds to hodgepodge up the season-opener.
The best look into the world of elite gymnastics that I’ve seen were the 25 episodes of “Behind the Rig,” produced by AT&T between spring 2007 and the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials. They’re still at one's disposal here.
